On Wednesday, September 11, 2019, the current Board of Directors visited the U.S. Department of State.
The Board was officially welcomed by the Deputy Assistant Secretary, Caroline Casagrande for American Spaces. In attendance were also participants from WHA/PDA, American Spaces, the American English Office, EducationUSA, Alumni, YLAI, PD Desk Officers and other interested officers.
The first item on the day’s agenda was ABLA’s presentation of Binational Centers as Strategic Partners in the Western Hemisphere. This was delivered by María Blanco Pate, who was aided by JoEllen Simpson and Susan Bryan. Afterwards, there was a Q&A moderated by Carol Brey, Office Director of the Office of American Spaces who was supported by Sheila Weir. During this session, ideas were exchanged on how to increase the partnership between the Department of State and BNCs.
